White House makes video for Kim to persuade him to do deal

Donald Trump showed Kim Jong Un a film he had made about a vision for North Korea without nuclear weapons.

The four-minute video, commissioned by the White House, is like a Hollywood trailer, with an orchestral score and dramatic narration.

“Featuring President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un, in a meeting to remake history, to shine in the sun,” the narrator said.

“One moment. One choice. What if?”

Mr Trump said he urged Mr Kim and other North Korean officials to watch the four-minute video during the Singapore summit.

Mr Trump said Mr Kim and other senior members of the North Korean delegation huddled around an iPad to watch the video, which looked like it has been made using generic stock images and news clips.

“I think he loved it,” the president said.

He gave the North Koreans their own copy.

The US government made the video to help persuade Mr Kim to make a deal, a White House official said.

“An audience of one,” the official added.

The credit on the video said it was produced by Destiny Pictures, which disrupted the morning of Mark Castaldo, who owns an LA-based production company with the same name.

“We had nothing to do with that film,” Mr Castaldo said in a telephone interview, adding he had awoken to a deluge of calls and emails from journalists around the world.

“Propaganda, all that stuff, that’s not something we’d get involved in.”

Mr Trump and Mr Kim signed a joint letter committing to the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula following their historic summit in Singapore.

The president described the North Korean leader as a “very talented” negotiator and said their meeting was “honest, direct and productive”.
