The first teaser dropped on Sunday night, and features an original score by the show’s composer Ramin Djawadi, and it was directed by David Nutter, who directed three of the final six episodes.
The teaser features Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) walking through the crypt at Winterfell. The camera moves through the crypt, pausing to highlight statues of fallen Starks. It features a voiceover of Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), saying “This horror that has come to my family—it’s all because I couldn’t love a motherless child.” Then, as Jon looks at the figure of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), we hear him saying, “You are a Stark. You might not have my name, but you have my blood.” Are these voices being imagined in their children’s heads, or is there something magical going on here?
What happens next is incredibly creepy: the three come across their own statues down in the crypt, just before it freezes over. Does this mean the Night King’s army is near? And what’s the significance of the feather that falls to the ground as Jon walks through the darkened hall?
We have three months to wait, but until then, there are bound to be theories about what it all means. Previously, we saw a very short clip from the season, revealing that Sansa and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will meet for the first time when the latter arrives at Winterfell.
