Tonight is the finale of Game of Thrones, and after last week’s episode, many fans are unhappy at the way this show is wrapping up. A petition titled “Remake Game of Thrones season 8 with competent writers” currently has more than one million signatures—and counting. But Riverdale star Lili Reinhart and Thrones actor Isaac Hempstead Wright are pushing back at the notion that the cast, crew, and writers would reshoot an entire season of a show.
Hempstead Wright, who plays the complex Bran in the show, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview on Friday that he is happy with the now controversial plot-twist in last week’s episode that involves long-beloved character Daenerys.
“It’s just absurd,” he said of the petition. “I can’t even fathom it. It’s just ridiculous. It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it. I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t. In my opinion, it’s a great ending. I think it’s that this is a character everyone loves. Dany is a brilliant character who has done so many fabulous things and saved so many people.”
Reinhart addressed the petition on Instagram. When she saw Variety‘s Instagram post about the petition, Reinhart commented with exactly her thoughts on the ordeal.
After fans saw her comment, they argued to Reinhart that TV is, indeed, fan service, and that her show, Riverdale, is the exact definition of said fan service.
Reinhart then doubled down on her opinion with an explanation in her Instagram story.
This show ends tonight, but something says this conversation/argument will not.
