Selena Gomez isn’t the only big star to make her Cannes Film Festival debut this year. Priyanka Chopra is too, and she went all out for it. The actress arrived in Nice, France this morning and stepped out for the Rocketman premiere tonight. She hinted on her Instagram that old Hollywood was the vibe she was going for, and that she did. Chopra wore a black gown adorned with jewels on the red carpet with Chopard jewelry. Her hair was down.
Chopra came as a guest of Chopard to the festival and announced she was going with them on her Instagram Story last night. In the hours before her red carpet debut, Chopra shared three photos from her prep. “Good afternoon, Cannes,” she captioned the first.
Chopra was not joined by her husband Nick Jonas this time. Her appearance at Cannes comes after they were last seen at Saturday Night Live‘s after party and the Met Gala together.
Chopra got attention earlier this week for her candid remarks about being bullied for her race in high school. The Indian actress studied at an American high school.
“I was treated differently because I’m brown,” Chopra told Associated Press, via People. “I had, you know, really racist behavior when I was in high school in 10th grade. I was called ‘Brownie,’ ‘Curry,’ [told to] ‘go back on the elephant you came on,’ and that really affected me when I was a kid and affected my self-esteem.”
Chopra said she hoped her talking about her experiences helps things get better for others. “The more we can talk about it and open other people’s eyes and say, ‘It doesn’t have to be that way,’ and give them more examples, I guess society will change,” she said.
