A new ITV documentary about Princess Diana–which will air tonight–has unearthed a number of stories about royal family life, as William and Harry remember their mother. Aside from their confession regarding the guilt they felt for cutting their last phone call with her short and their admission that she was the “naughtiest” of parents, William has also recounted the time his mother invited a group of supermodels over to the house to embarrass him.
“She organized when I came home from school to have Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell waiting at the top of the stairs, I was probably a 12 or 13-year-old boy who had posters of them on his wall,” he said.
While the story has been told before, this marks the first time William has commented on his embarrassment at his mother’s practical joke.
“I went bright red, and didn’t know quite what to say and sort of fumbled and I think pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up,” he added. “I was completely and utterly awestruck.”
After he got over the embarrassment however, William remembers the whole experience very fondly: “That was a very funny memory that’s lived with me forever.”
