Michelle Obama Met Parker Curry From Viral Portrait Gazing Photo

A photo of a young black girl, two-year-old Parker Curry, gazing in awe at Michelle Obama’s newly-unveiled portrait in the National Portrait Gallery went viral last week. She was, in one photo, living testament of Obama’s words during the unveiling ceremony. “I am thinking about all of the young people, particularly girls and girls of color, who in years ahead will come to this place, and they will look up and see someone who looks like them hanging on the walls of this great institution,” the former First Lady said then.

But that’s not where the story ends. Michelle Obama herself just tweeted a video of herself with Curry. They met. It really happened.

This afternoon, the former First Lady shared that she and her two-year-old fan hung out and had a dance party to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”.

“Parker, I’m so glad I had the chance to meet you today (and for the dance party)!” Obama wrote. “Keep on dreaming big for yourself…and maybe one day I’ll proudly look up at a portrait of you!”
