David Carptenter, notoriously known as The Trailside Killer, terrorized and killed several people in the 1970s and 80s. Lois Rinna, mother of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills‘ Lisa Rinna, was just one of two who survived an attack by Carpenter, and on Tuesday night’s episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lois opened up about the harrowing attack.
Lois knew Carpenter and his family personally and was a very “trusting person,” Lisa said, so when Carpenter offered Lois a ride, Lois hopped in the car. “He’s straddling me, and he had a hammer in one hand, a knife in the other,” Lois remembered.
“He tried to rape her. He tried to kill her. Luckily, a military policeman had seen them drive down this deserted road and he knew no one was supposed to be down there and he followed them down. My mom was saved that day by that military policeman,” Lisa explained.
Carpenter was arrested for his attempted murder attack on Lois and spent time in prison and was even suspected of being the Zodiac Killer. Lois’ attack put Carpenter in jail for about seven and a half years before he was released and murdered several other women. Carpenter, now 88 years old, is currently on death row at San Quentin State Prison.
“I had such great sadness and empathy for my mom, knowing that not only did this happen to her, but that she basically just stuffed those feelings for how many years?” Lisa said during the episode. “She never dealt with it. She never even talked about it.”
In an Instagram post the day the episode aired, Lisa commended her mother for her strength and paid tribute to her late father by sharing an old photo of her parents.
“I wish my Dad was still with us so he could see my Mom tonight on #RHOBH 😇,” she captioned the photo. “I am so proud of my Mom and I know Dad is watching from heaven and is so proud of you Mama! I love you! ❤️“
