One might think the star of the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere was Jon Snow. Sure, he found out his true parentage, rode a dragon, and was reunited with his Stark siblings. But he was overshadowed by someone. Not even Daenerys Targaryen, his queen/girlfriend, with her dramatic entrance to Winterfell (dragons in tow) could take that spot either.
Nope—according to Twitter, episode 1 of the final GoT season was all about…Bran.
Just think about it. Now that he’s the Three-Eyed Raven, he’s the only person who can see all the chess pieces of the Westerosi conflict for what they are. He can see anywhere in time and space, and his role in season 8 is clearly going to be to hurry these pesky humans up so they don’t all get killed by wights.
His all-knowing mind and his serene (creepy?) demeanor caught viewers’ attention last night. Everywhere characters looked, there was Bran, staring at them. He interrupted his siblings’ nice greetings to tell them they didn’t have time for pomp and ceremony. And, in one of the most satisfying moments of the episode, he greeted Jaime Lannister in the freezing cold. Why does that matter? Well, all the way back in the first episode of the first season, when Bran spied Jaime and his sister Cersei in bed together. Jaime pushed Bran out the window, causing the injuries that now see Bran in a wheelchair.
The Kingslayer probably didn’t expect to see Bran so soon—he’s come a long way both physically and morally, and is a different person from the cocky Lannister who thought nothing of possibly killing a child to save his secret. As the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran now knows everything there is to know about anything, so despite having forgotten when he was a child how he was injured, he now knows Jaime pushed him. Could Bran really be that excited to unnerve Jaime, though? Bran doesn’t seem into petty things right now. He might have a special message for Jaime about his role in the battle to come.
Fans were into his silent watchfulness, but I think we can all agree it was creepy and dramatic, too. Here are the best Twitter reactions to Bran’s appearances in the episode.
