Australia’s former Prime Minister Bob Hawke dies at 89 | Australia News

Australia’s former Prime Minister Bob Hawke has died at 89.

A former trade union leader, Hawke served four terms as prime minister and was considered a reformer.

He cemented his place as the prime minister of the working class when he, effectively, announced a spontaneous national holiday after Australia’s 1983 America’s Cup win.

Al Jazeera’s Ijeoma Ndukwe takes a look back at his life and legacy.
