She’s dominated primetime television with Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and How to Get Away With Murder. Now, Shonda Rhimes is taking her eye for riveting stories and diverse casts to Dove’s newly launched Real Beauty Productions.
According to Dove, 69% of women agree that they don’t see representations they can identify with in movies, television, and advertisements. To challenge the narrow definitions of beauty in media, Rhimes, taking on a Creative Director role, will lead an entirely female studio crew to produce women’s personal stories. To start, she’s called on women to submit stories about what beauty means to them on DoveRealBeauty.com. Throughout the year, a select few will turn into Real Beauty Productions’ first films–and those women will have a chance to work side by side with Shonda Rhimes.

“I have always told stories to show us who we really are–our real human truths,” Rhimes said in a statement, “The way women are depicted on our screens–big and small–must be challenged. I am personally eager to see the real and unexpected stories women will share with us.”
