Rough winds to kick up 8.5ft waves offshore UAE

Dubai: Dark skies, rough winds and high waves are expected to hit the coast of the UAE this weekend, warned the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) on Thursday.

In its daily weather forecast, the NCM issued an orange alert as the strong winds will kick up waves from 6-8.5 feet in the Arabian Gulf, and from 5-7 feet waves in the Oman Sea.

Residents have also been advised to take caution when venturing out into coastal areas and the deep sea.

The strong northwesterly winds will average 14km/h to 24km/h on dry land, while an average of 18km/h to 24km/h wind speed is expected to affect the sea, which will reach up to 38km/h.

Temperatures are expected to remain relatively low ranging from 8-20 degrees Celsius in the mountain area, 12-28 degrees Celsius in internal areas, and 13-26 degrees Celsius in coastal areas.

The NCM also said that the weather until Saturday, “will be partly cloudy in general and hazy at times, with mild winds blowing over inland areas and strong winds to affect the sea.”
