Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior has signed an agreement with etisalat to link homes and establishments belonging to Emiratis to a fire alarm system connected to the civil defence control room, a statement from the ministry said on Monday.
Major General Jasem Al Marzouqi, director-general of Civil Defence signed the agreement in the presence of Lt General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
“With this agreement, we will further enhance the fire fighting system and our responce time will be reduced in emergency situations. This will also strengthen the fire protection measures in residential homes and commercial establishments,” Al Marzouqi said.
In case a smoke alarm goes off, the system will automatically send an alert to the civil defence control room.
The agreement comes after seven children of an Emirati family died of suffocation following a fire in their house in Fujairah’s Rul Dadna district on January 22.
In the aftermath of the horrific villa fire, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the UAE Civil Defence to immediately install fire alarm systems in every citizen’s home.
The Fujairah fire was one of the deadliest fire-related tragedies in recent times.
Al Marzouqi called on citizens to apply for the installation of the fire system through the Ministry of Interior’s website.
“The aim of the registration on the ministry’s website is to ensure complete benefit from the directives of Shaikh Mohammad,” he said.
The fire alarm system will be installed in homes and residential villas as per the best international standards, he added.
The ministry has adopted this system with its technical capabilities to link homes with the civil defence’ operation rooms and measures were specified by the technical bodies in the ministry in cooperation with its partners.
