Buyers and sellers will come together over the next two Fridays to trade pre-owned items
Ajman: Buyers and sellers from around the UAE are expected to converge on the emirate of Ajman to take part in a British-inspired car-boot sale.
The event will be held at Ajman Corniche Car Park (opposite Corniche Tower) from 6pm to 10pm this Friday and the next.
A car-boot sale is a British tradition similar to a yard sale or flea market with the added advantage of being able to sell from your vehicle.
Sellers offer, at reduced prices, new and pre-owned items such as clothes, books, children’s toys, and general household furniture, from the back of their vehicles (or car boot).
Car-boot sales are popular in the UK and are gradually becoming a mainstay among diverse nationalities living in the UAE.
Saleh Mohammad Al Geziry, director-general of Ajman Tourism Development Department, said: “Ajman is a family-friendly emirate with strong cultural bonds where residents and tourists engage, creating a sense of pride and community. We are excited to host the car-boot sale as it tends to attract families from around the UAE region. It’s an event all will enjoy, not to mention the incredible bargains and hidden gems buyers can find at these events.”
Rob Newbould, the founder of The Car Boot Sale, said: “The concept of selling one’s unwanted possessions doesn’t come naturally to everyone. In fact, it’s a very new thing for some here in the emirates. There is no doubt, however, based on the extremely positive feedback and early success of The Car Boot Sale that the concept is here to stay.”
